Chihuahuas look so cute and adorable; they are also known for their small size and big temper, although they are more than devoted to their owners.
Chihuahuas’ origin is unknown, as much of the canine’s history is speculation, but it seems to be directly connected with Aztecs.
Named after the State of Chihuahua, in the north Mexico this dog breed seems to be dated from more than 11,000 years ago (around the 5th century A.D.) in some areas of South America. Chihuahuas are descendents of an extinct breed of small dogs called Techichi, which were considered sacred to the Aztecs. The Aztecs treated the dogs as companion animals and were part of religious ceremonies.
Chihuahuas were first registered as a breed in 1904 and since then have become more and more popular in the U.S. and everywhere else in the world.
Chihuahuas traveled from the deserts of Mexico to the hands of many celebrities in Los Angeles and New York. Marilyn Monroe had one of her own that she called ChooChoo. Many other famous Chihuahua owners can’t hide their passion for this little canine like Paris Hilton (owner of 17 Chihuahuas!), Mikey Rourke and Reese Witherspoon.
