One of the most important places of Italian culture and language, Caffè degli Specchi in Trieste, has closed doors in late 2011. This was the place were Svevo, Kafka, and Joyce used to meet and write. Joyce taught English to Sevo and the latter, a giant of Italian literature (La coscienza di Zeno is possibly the most beautiful and sophisticated book ever written in the 1900s in Italy) passed some of the techniques that made Joyce famous. There is some hope that the cafe may re-open but it is still not known how and when. Let hope…
