Mia’s Italian: Getting Started

Beginning today we will be sharing with you the journey of Mia, a high school student using Living Language Platinum to learn Italian. Mia will track her progress and share regular updates with us as she plans for a trip to Italy this winter with her family. Enjoy her first post below!

Hi everyone! I recently decided to learn another language for my personal project at school and because both my mother and father are Italian. I still have some family in Italy, and I was chosen to be the designated translator for our trip early next year.

Lucky for me, my school’s personal project was the perfect way to combine my desire to learn Italian, our family trip to Italy and, hopefully earn good grades.

There are many ways that you can learn a language. In school, I study French because my school doesn’t offer Italian. I thought about hiring a tutor, but it wasn’t practical. My days are packed with a heavy schedule of school and extracurricular activities. Finding time to squeeze in tutoring sessions would be overwhelming. A tutor is also very costly. I considered teaching myself, but thought that would be difficult.

When I was introduced to Living Language, it seemed like the perfect solution. I now have a portable tutor that I can use whenever I want to without worrying about scheduling. I can access my Living Language account anywhere on my smartphone, computer and tablet, from in the car on my way to school, to waiting in line for coffee. This is extremely beneficial because my progress is saved and recorded, so I can pick up where I left off each and every time.

I was surprised at how many different types of learning aids are included in the Living Language Platinum Edition. Between being able to see and hear the words, there are games and quizzes to make sure I apply what I’ve learned.

Living Language has been so insightful; I have already learned how to say various greetings and common phrases. I scheduled my first e-tutoring session for next weekend and can’t wait to see how I’m sounding!
