Summer Drink Recipes from Around the World



With the summer heat kicking into full force around most of the country, we’re craving some refreshing summer drinks. We asked our eTutors to share their favorite summer drink recipes so that we can all cool down the Living Language way.


Bellini – Italy

The bellini was invented in Italy in 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani, head bartender and owner of Harry’s Bar, in Venice.

230 gr. di polpa di pesca bianca
1 cucchiaino di polpa di lamponi
1 bottiglia di prosecco ghiacciato

2/3 cup white peach puree
1 teaspoon raspberry puree
1 bottle chilled Prosecco

 

 

 

 

Pastis – France

Pastis is especially popular in the south and in Marseille, where it is also called un jaune (a yellow) or un pastaga.

Un volume de pastis
Cinq volumes d’eau fraîche
2 glaçons

One part pastis
Five parts fresh water
2 ice cubes

 

Michelada – Mexico
A michelada is a type of cerveza preparada (a shandy, lit., a prepared beer).

1 cerveza
2 oz. jugo de limón
5 oz. jugo de tomate
unas gotas de salsa inglesa y tabasco
sal
hielo

1 beer
2 oz. lime juice
5 oz tomato juice
a few drops of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco
salt
ice

 

Caipirinha – Brazil
The main ingredient in a caipirinha is cachaça, Brazil’s number one distilled spirit, which is also called pinga (drop), aguardente (literally stinging water) orcaninha (small sugarcane).

1 limão
2 colheres de sobremesa de açúcar
gelo
cachaça
Misture o limão e o açúcar em um copo usando um pilão, acrescente o gelo, complete com a cachaça.

1 lime
2 teaspoons of sugar
ice
cachaça
Mix the lime and sugar in a glass using a pestle, add the ice, complete with cachaça.

 

Limonana לימונענע - Israel

Limonana לימונענע may have originated in Syria or Turkey.

‏גרידה מלימון אחד
‫המיץ של 4 לימונים‬
קומץ עלי נענע‏
‫2 כוסות של קרח
‫1/2 כוס סוכר מומס במים חמים‬

!מערבבים את החומרים בבלנדר. ליהנות

the zest of 1 medium lemon
the juice of 4 medium lemons
a large handful of fresh mint leaves
½ cup simple syrup
2 cups of ice

 

 

Umeshu (Plum Liqueur) Soda – Japan
梅酒 Umeshu is a Japanese liqueur made from Japanese green plums called ume. ( shu in 梅酒 umeshu means alcohol.)

グラス一杯に氷を入れる。
グラスに半分くらいの高さまで梅酒を注ぎ入れる。
ソーダを注いで軽く混ぜる。

Fill a glass with ice.
Pour in a half glass of Umeshu.
Top it off with soda and stir lightly.

Mix ingredients in blender and enjoy!
