Ramadan, which began yesterday, is a special month of the year for over one billion Muslims throughout the world.
The period of daily fasting starts at the breaking of dawn and ends at the setting of the sun. During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. In this way, every part of the body observes the fast.
The fast will end 29 or 30 days from the start of Ramadan, Eid el-Fitr, which translates as the Feast of “Breaking the Fast.” Then, all muslims will cease fasting and feast for three days.
