Now that the Olympics are over, we’d like to welcome home and congratulate all athletes that competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games! As a tribute to this year’s official language, let’s take a look back at some of the biggest events and most memorable moments – in French.
Athlétisme (Athletics)
There’s no doubt that Usain Bolt of Jamaica is rapide (fast), but his performance in the Men’s 100m and 200m finals proved he is worth d’or (the gold).

Football (Football/Soccer)
The USA women’s équipe (team) saw a chance to make up for their World Cup loss to Japan and rose to the challenge during the gold medal match on Thursday. They ont battu (defeated) Japan this time, 2-1.
Plongeon (Diving)
China dominated the diving events this year and led with the most diving médailles (medals). Whether it was single tremplin (springboard) or synchronisée (synchronized) on the platform, these athletes were exciting to watch.

Gymnastique (Gymnastics)
Gabby Douglas and the Fab Five USA women’s team showed strong performances on the saut de cheval (horse jumping/vault), Poutre ([balance] beam), Barres Asymétriques (uneven bars) and exercices au sol (floor exercise) throughout the competition. The men’s and women’s USA teams ended the games with 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 médailles de bronze (bronze medals).
Escrime (Fencing)
Repeating the Beijing games in 2008, Italy is again the best fleuret (foil) team in the monde (world). Fencing is one of only five sports to be in every Olympic Games since 1896!
