Enjoy “Il Pandoro” the typical Italian dolce natalizio!

So this is the time in Italy when you have to eat a lot of Pandoro. Pandoro is a typical Christmas cake from Verona. It is a sweet, star-shaped cake, typically prepared on the occasion of Christmas since the late nineteenth century. Its characteristic features are: soft and light, similar to brioche dough, delicate flavor and a very slight aroma of vanilla.

The name of the cake is probably due to the golden yellow color, although there are more imaginative interpretations. Some argue that this sweet used to appear on the tables of the aristocratic Venetian families, covered by a thin gold foil.

More likely, the Venetian pastry makers learned the technique of preparation of the dough during the Hasburg: Viennese pastry chefs, in fact, had completed the “brioche” French, creating a new sweet (called “Pan Vienna”) rather similar to Pandoro the same.

Industrial production, which began more than a century ago, has enabled it spread and was appreciated all over the country, and still is one of the most beloved and traditional Christmas sweets, especially appreciated by those who do not like the candied fruit and raisins in the panettone.
