Navidad en Familia

Navidad (Christmas) is a time to enjoy with family and our celebrations are deeply rooted in Catholic tradition. On December 7th, most Hispanic countries celebrate El día de la virgen (Virgin Mary´s day). In Colombia, people place velas (candles) on the sidewalks, to light the road for the Virgin Mary as she passes by. In Mexico, people recreate the pilgrimage that Mary and Joseph lived while searching for lodging. Mexicans call it Las Posadas.

El día de los reyes magos, (Three Kings Day) is January 6th and is a beautiful religious tradition that is mostly celebrated in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Hispanics sing and play villancicos (songs about the birth of Jesus).

Let´s not forget the food! Ajiaco (special chicken soup), Lechon asado (Barbecued pork), tamales, niño envuelto (stuffed cabbage).
