In developing Living Language Platinum we hired a crew of language teachers from all over the world. These native speakers will contribute to this blog, answer questions on Twitter and our forums, and teach small group sessions. There’s nothing like learning the nuances of a language and cultural insights from someone who has lived it. We will introduce each of them in the blog with 5 Questions.
Name: Heike
Current Residence: New York, NY
Languages Spoken: Französisch (French), Deutsch (German), Englisch und ein bißchen Italienisch und Spanisch (and a little bit of Italian and Spanish)
LL: What do you love most about the German language?
Heike: German is so logical and so easy to pronounce. While compared to other languages, it may take a little longer to get up and running, once you do, there are no more surprises.
LL: What’s your favorite phrase in German?
Heike: “Liebe geht durch den Magen” (Love goes through the stomach.) Food is really important to Germans. I know we are not necessarily known for indulging but we do love it, maybe we just try to hide it a little bit.
LL: What language would you like to learn?
Heike: My boyfriend is Persian, so I would like to learn Farsi.
LL: Why did you decide to become an e-tutor?
Heike: I think it’s a fabulous way to make language learning easy and fun and hip at the same time. Aside from the fact that languages simply are my passion. There is no better way to connect to people from another culture but to speak their language — at any level!!
LL: What’s your lucky number?
Heike: Sechzehn, mein Geburtstag. Ich weiß, das ist ein bißchen schmalzig, aber die Zahl hat mir immer geholfen. (Sixteen, my birthday. I know it’s a bit corny but this number has always helped me.)
