Living Language eTutoring: Practice with a native-speaker anywhere

Often when you’re learning a foreign language, the hardest thing is finding a native speaker to practice with. That’s why Living Language offers sessions with our native-speaker eTutors in all of the languages of our online courses. Before you try this valuable tool, you may want to know what exactly “eTutoring” means. eTutoring is an online tutoring program designed to accompany your Living Language online course from start to finish. The sessions are taught by our experienced native-speaker eTutors via a videoconferencing platform that is easy to use. Here are some more quick facts about eTutoring sessions:

How do I schedule an eTutoring session? Etutoring is available to online course subscribers via our website. Just log in at livinglanguage.com and click on My Courses in the top right-hand corner of your screen, and then click on the box titled Schedule an Etutoring Session on the right hand side (see below).

How long do they last? Etutoring sessions last 30 minutes.

Do I have to show my video? Nope! You will be able to see and hear your eTutor, but you don’t need to show your video. So no need to fix your hair!

Which session should I take? The sessions are designed to accompany different sections of the course (for example, Essential Lessons 1-2) so you should sign up for the session that covers the portion of the course that you’ve just completed.

Will it be a private class? Etutoring sessions can have up to 3 students per session, but if you are the only one signed up, you’ll get a private session.

What happens in an etutoring session? Your eTutor will introduce him or herself and ask you to do the same. You’ll warm-up with a small chat using the vocab and grammar you’ve just learned, and then your eTutor will use images selected for the session to get you using that new vocabulary and grammar in conversation. They will also provide you with pronunciation feedback, and clarify any unknown words using the chat box.

Can I cancel my session if something comes up? Of course, your schedule may change after you’ve signed up; we just ask that you cancel as soon as possible so that others can fill your slot in the session. You’re able to cancel your session with no penalty up to 48 hours in advance of the session start time.

As an editor at Living Language, I’ve been able to take eTutoring with nearly all of our tutors, and each time, I’m impressed with how much I learn in just a half-hour. It’s like an intense workout for your mind in your new language.

For those of you who are already subscribed to our online course, just go to your eTutoring page to sign up for your first session.
