"per primo" or "di primo"

Unfortunately, I came across another instance of having the grammar section show one way of saying something, but later on, another way is used.

In this case, on page 171 of the Intermediate book, it says that "as first course" is "per primo," but on page 181, the phrase "di primo" is used. Are these interchangeable? Is one preferred or used more often?

Yes, they are both correct and interchangeable. In fact, there is a third way which is also fine: "come primo."
