“one of the..”（之一） in Chinese

    In order to express "one of the..." in Chinese, "之一" (zhī yī) can be used at the end of the sentence. 之一(zhī yī) is one of those grammar that really gives your Chinese some polish. Using it with confidence makes your Chinese sound wonderful! Learn how to use it properly in this article. 

    Adjective + Noun + 之一(zhī yī)


    An important note to keep in mind is that 之一 can only follow a noun.

    Tā shì wǒ de hǎo pénɡyou zhī yī 。
    他 是 我 的 好 朋友 之 一 。
    He is one of my best friends.

    niǔyuē shì shìjiè shànɡ zuì hǎo de chénɡshì zhī yī 。
    纽约 是 世界 上 最 好 的 城市 之 一 。
    New York is the one of the best cities in the world.

    Tā juédé xuěbì  shì zuì hǎo hē de qìshuǐ zhī yī 。
    他 觉得  雪碧   是 最 好 喝 的 汽水 之 一 。
    He thinks Sprite is one of the best tasting sodas.

    tā shì shìjiè shàng zuì yǒumíng de gāngqínjiā zhī yī。 
    他 是 世界  上    最 有名   的 钢琴家 之一。
    He is one of the most famous pianist in the world.
