Negative Commands

To express a negative command, a different negative word, huwag (don’t), is used instead of hindi, and the word order is as follows (notice the addition of the linker -ng to the pronoun):

Huwag + Pronoun + Verb

Huwag kang maglaro.
Don’t you (sing.) play.

Huwag tayong pumunta doon.
Don’t we go there.

Huwag kayong magkasakit.
Don’t you (pl.) get sick.

In Tagalog, the verb in negative commands can either be in the infinitive form, as in the sentences above, or in the contemplated form, specifying that the command is for a future time.

Huwag kang maglalaro.
Don’t play (in the future).

Huwag kang pupunta doon.
Don’t go there (in the future).

Huwag kang magkakasakit.
Don’t get sick (in the future).
