作 者：孟浩然Chūn mián bù jué xiăo,
春 眠 不 觉 晓，Chù chù wén tí niăo.
处 处 闻 啼 鸟。Yè lái fēng yŭ shēng,
夜 来 风 雨 声，Huā luò zhī duō shăo.
花 落 知 多 少。English translation:
A Spring Morning
Meng HaoranI awake light-hearted this morning of spring,
Everywhere round me the singing of birds.
But now I remember the night, the storm,
And I wonder how many blossoms were broken.About the Author:
Meng Haoran (689～740), a famous poet in the climax of Tang Dynasty, was good at writing pastoral poetry.

Just curious, why not "And I wondered how many blossoms fell”？

I thought the reason why "broken" here is because the poetry context. The third sentence described wind and rain, so blossoms were broken caused by the storm.
