"I am going to work"

On pages 147-8 of the Essentials book, "Our children don't go to work" is translated as "I nostri figli non vanno a lavorare." And on page 148, "I'm going to work" is translated as "Vado al lavoro."Are both phrases - "a lovorare" and "al lavoro" correct? Is one preferred?

You can use either phrases in most contexts with the same exact meaning. The only slight difference is that when you say "vado al lavoro," you think more of a physical place, like an office, whereas when you say "vado a lavorare," the emphasis is on the act of working.
