Where did you go? Positive and negative sentences in the past
  • heimaodian November 2014
    Q:Where did you go?
    你去哪儿了? (nǐ qù nǎr le)

    A:I went to a meeting.
我去开会了。  (wǒ qù kāi huì le)

The particle 了(le) in 你去哪儿了? (nǐ qù nǎr le) is used at the end of a sentence to indicate an action or situation in the past. However, when indicating a negative sense, 了(le) should be omitted, and the word 没(méi) should be inserted before the verb.

    For example:
昨天我去了超市。(zuó tiān wǒ qù le chāo shì)
Affirmative:Yesterday I went to the supermarket.

昨天我没去超市。(zuó tiān wǒ méi qù chāo shì)
Negative: Yesterday I didn’t go to the supermarket.
