JLPT - Advanced lessons
-
Hello. I was just wondering what JLPT level would I be able to pass after finishing the advanced lessons?

Hi! Thanks for the question. You should definitely be able to pass N5. The thing about N4 and the above is that you will need to be able to read a lot of kanji characters and have a lot of vocabulary. Living Language Japanese course teaches you most Japanese grammar structures and focuses a lot on actually using and speaking Japanese in real life. On the other hand, it has a limited number of vocabulary listed and also you are basically on your own when it comes to learning kanji characters after a few really basic ones. So these things need to be supplemented if you want to pass N4 and the above.

Understood. Thank you for your reply !If I study the kanji and vocabulary by myself, will I then be able to pass N4 and above?Like, when it comes to grammar and structure will the advanced course give me all I need?Thank you in advance.

The thing about Japanese is that there isn't so much grammar to learn, but there are many "fixed expressions". So basically, for N4 and above, you will have to memorize those expressions.
By "fixed expressions", I mean things like:
"totemo + V-neg " = can't possibly V
"shikata ga nai" = can't be helped
"V-past totan ni" = as soon as V
etc. etc.
There are JLPT books which gives you list of those expressions. If you are interested in taking JLPT, I recommend that you get one of those books.
Remember though, Living Language Japanese course gives you a solid foundation, so after you are done with Advanced Japanese, you will be in a good place to extend your vocabulary by yourself using things like JLPT books!
Good luck!
