Expressing your feelings

I was wondering how might you say that you like or love someone in Japanese? I do understand that there are many different ways and the tone in some is lighter/heavier in meaning so I would like both sides of it. I want to know both ways with "I like you." or "I love you." Also if there was a name in the text where might it go? I can guess where it goes, but I want to make sure. Any answers/support would be nice.

To say you like someone, say,

    PERSON が すきです。

This is actually an all-purpose phrase. You can use it casually, but you can also use it seriously to confess to someone that you are in love with him/her. It all depends on how you say it (i.e. casually or seriously).

Remember that in casual speech, people often omit the です ending. So you'd often hear just PERSON が すき.

There is also a phrase which literally means "I love you":

    PERSON を あいしてる

But it really sounds serious and it is pretty much only used between couples.

    What about だいすき?
Would you use particle が before だいすき like in
     PERSON がすき
So you would have something like PERSON がだすき? If that is the correct structure.

    だいすきです means "like very much".

So sure, you can definitely use it too!

    PERSON が だいすきです。

And yes, people often omit the です ending, so you'd often hear:

    PERSON  が だいすき。

Oh I am sure you will find the way to express your feelings in words but you can also try the art of nonverbal communication :) It is not limited with verbal interpretation and the barrier created due to language and words is also negated. Just try it this way!
