  • goospanish August 2014
    are these interchanable?
    can you use either on

No, I am not going there as a tourist but as an au-pair for a year.

No, No viajo come turista sine como Au-Pair por un año.
No, No viajo come turista pero como Au-Pair por un año.

    Are they both correct?
turns out reading the dictionaly kind a complicated
    both are conjunctions
sino is noun   and pero can be too ! has a bunch of spanish works to look up
    al principio de frase
    uso enfático
    pega)
    enfático   twice
    para contraponer
    para exceptuar
    salvo
    únicamente

Well guess I will read how but is used in English.

    Hola, Goospanish:

This is a tricky issue. In general you´ll use SINO when the first sentence is in the negative form:

    - No soy americana, sino española
    - No tengo una hermana, sino dos.
    - No he venido a cocinar, sino a comer.

    - Soy española, pero madrileña.
    - Ven, pero no molestes mucho.
    - Toca la guitarra, pero bajito.

Please, keep asking me about specific cases.

    Saludos,

    Carmen.

    Hi, G:

I´m sorry I didn´t translate my sentences. I see now that they were quite difficult. Here you have them:

    - No he venido a cocinar, sino a comer: I haven´t come to cook, but to eat.
    - Soy española, pero madrileña: I´m Spanish, but from Madrid
    - Ven, pero no molestes mucho: Come, but don´t be annoying.
    - Toca la guitarra, pero bajito: Play the guitar, but softly.

The point I´m trying to make is that SINO (but) is used when there´s a NO in the first part of the sentence.

    Saludos,

    Carmen.

watched and was  right now above  my level......  had  also   sino que    Sort of  got the sino  and   pero     Sino has a negative  clause       something about  two verbs  when you use  sino que.     I will  try to figure out how to get to lesson one  of the series

Thank you for showing me about this.
