Action Verbs

I was wondering about something I had noticed with Japanese action verbs. All of the verbs I have seen end in "masu." Do all Japanese action verbs end in "masu?" This does not include special action verbs if there do happen to be any.

Every Japanese verb in its polite form ends with ます masu, except for the verb "to be", which is です desu. It is probably more accurate to say that "ますmasu is the polite form ending".

There are two verb forms in Japanese: polite and plain. The polite form is the form you first learn when you start studying Japanese. After a while, you will start learning the plain form. The plain form is a little more complex, but a plain form verb always ends with the sound "u".

The plain form is introduced in Lesson 9 of Intermediate Japanese!
