First conversation in Spanish outside
-
I just finished Essential Spanish a couple of days ago and I told myself when I did that I would try to have small conversations with people outside. I had my first one tonight. I went to McDonald's to get a Shamrock Shake and the woman behind the counter was Hispanic. I greeted her, ordered my shake, she told me the price, I gave her the money, she gave me the change, got the shake, we thanked each other and said goodbye all in Spanish. It's not a lot but it made me feel good and that I am accomplishing something with my language studies.

That's so cool! Congratulations.

Muy Bien :)

It makes me smile that the first thing you ordered during your first Spanish conversation in the wild was a shamrock shake. That's great! An Irish-themed item in an American fast food chain ordered in Spanish. Me gusta mucho este mundo!

Very good... I try to order in Spanish does not usually work. ( Here in USA ) in Mexico I point and stuff... still not not fluid. I get food but might not be what I want.... I eat most anything. So I don't go hungry.

Hola,
Ordering food has its challenges: The waiter must be too busy to spend time with you or he might speak Spanish with some thick accent. However, I find that people usually react nicely when you try to communicate in their language. So, Keep trying, and let us know!
Saludos,
Carmen.
