Orientation?
  • Kulden February 2013
I was just curious as to whether or not I should sign up for an orientation session before I join an e-tutoring session at my level? Does the orientation session basically help you learn how to utilize e-tutoring, or is it for those who have not started lessons yet?

Hello Kulden, welcome to LL! The orientation session is meant to show you how to get the most out of your experience with Living Language. You can sign up for it right away.

It looks like we need to make the Orientation Sessions a bit clearer on our confirmation emails, because we've gotten a few questions about that recently. Sorry for the confusion.

It's a great idea to take the Orientation, because you can meet an eTutor, make sure the application works and you're familiar with it before you start your 'real' sessions, learn a few key expressions in Italian that will come in handy during the sessions, and learn how to get the most out of your experience with Living Language.

You can take the session at any time, so even if you've done one of the actual lesson block sessions, you can always go back and enroll in the Orientation in case you're wondering about anything.

    Grazie!

I'm new to living language and have a few questions about E-Tutoring:
How do I sign up for sessions?
May I choose the subject or must I select from a list of offerings?
What means are available to communicate with tutors?
I am anxious to use the features of E-Tutoring and would like to get started.

    Mille Grazie,
    David G.

    Hi David,
Welcome! I'm glad that you want to get started with e-Tutoring right away.  It's an extremely important part of the LL course, so I highly recommend that you take advantage.  To do so, you should log on at livinglanguage.com as you would to use the online course and forum.  Click on 'My Courses' and you'll be taken to the main page for your LL course(s).  On the right hand side of the page, you will see an orange box that says "Schedule an e-tutoring session." Click on "View sessions" and you will be taken to the page where you can select which session and at what time you want to enroll in.  The sessions cover different portions of the course and are intended to put into practice what you've learned in those lessons.  So you should do the sessions in tandem with the course (e.g. after completing Essential Lessons 1 and 2, you should sign up for the first e-Tutoring session, which covers those lessons.)
After you sign up, you'll receive an email with a link to your session. All you need is to be connected to the internet and have a functioning microphone (headsets work best, but are not necessary). If you'd like to read more about e-Tutoring, here is a page which tells you more:

    I hope you enjoy it!
