I recently read in the music section of the spanish newspaper El País a description of Chile as "the new pop paradise"

A few young contemporary Chilean musicians have been lauded in Europe after having a big repercussion on the Internet. Their videos have thousands of hits on youtube thanks to the connectivity of social network users and bloggers, causing these artists to reach a global audience.

Javiera Mena, Dënver and Gepe are a few examples of young Chilean musicians in their 20's that have been raised after Pinochet's dictatorship which ended in 1990. They share a unique and refreshing pop sound, which opposes the Chilean new wave music scene from the 90's.

Javiera Mena - Whose music combines folk, pop and electronic elements. In 2010 her first dancefloor oriented single "Hasta la verdad", was listed as one of the Singles of the Week in the USA iTunes Store and iTunes Mexico considered her album as the breakthrough of the year.

Gepe - Spanish-pop with folkloric roots. Influenced by genres as diverse as la tonada, a folkloric genre from the Chilean rural areas sung exclusively by women, and the sound of the electronic American band Animal Collective.
