Question on Lesson 6 flashcard in Essential Spanish
-
You're thinking along the right lines, but idioma is actually masculine. There are a lot of nouns in Spanish that break the o=masculine and a=feminine rule, usually ones that are borrowed from Greek in the case of masculine nouns ending in -a, or shortened forms in the case of feminine nouns ending in -o:el problema (the problem)el sistema (the system)el programa (the program)el clima (the climate)el idioma (the language)la testigo (female witness)la radio (radio)la foto (photo, from fotografia)la moto (motorcycle, from motocicleta)Since idioma is masculine, cuantos idiomas is correct.
