Japanese Politics

I'm just curious... Do you guys think that this is a good discussion topic: Japanese politics and government? Is it a bureaucracy or democracy etc.

Hi there! Great question. We started planning the discussion topics during the US presidential election, which seemed to last hundreds of years... We all decided that politics might be best set aside as a discussion topic, along with a few other topics that could get personal or contentious.

I understand what you mean by that... I only wanted to get to know more about Japan's system - not the actual candidates. It would be like explaining our three branches and our constitution without discussing the president or senators etc. I didn't realize at the time how I phrased the question, and I'm sorry for asking.

Don't be sorry! It's definitely possible to give a survey of a country's political landscape without getting into 'issues.' A site I have bookmarked for "fast facts" on any country in the world is the CIA World Factbook. Here's a link to Japan

Thanks Chris. I'm really not an expert on politics, and all I can do is to post some website links. Wikipedia's entry on "Government in Japan" might also be a useful introduction.

    Thanks!

And here's a link to the US Embassy in Japan, with links to English language newspapers. They might have some good articles on politics that could interest you.

Here is an interesting (for lack of a better word) political issue between Japan and the US:
