Sun, 24 Jan 2016 20:53:45 -0500 JenniferB 867@/community/discussions If you repeat an E-tutoring lesson do you get charged a credit for that? All it says in the guidelines is that "you may repeat any session once for extra practice" I signed up to repeat a lesson but if I'm going to lose a credit on that I will cancel and move forward and keep my fingers crossed that it clicks for me on my own.

Thank you

timeslots and credits http://livinglanguage.com/community/discussion/860/timeslots-and-credits Sun, 29 Nov 2015 19:04:40 -0500 AshesFallen 860@/community/discussions
I purchased platinum and I just finished Essentials lessons and would like to schedule my first e-tutoring session now. IHowever, there's no timeslot for almost a week and a half. And even then, only two time slots in all of december.

By then, I will be well into intermediate lessons... Why are there so few timeslots - is it because of the time of the year? How many days in advance are sessions scheduled for? I have taken spanish in high school many years ago so I was able to speed through much of Essentials - so Should I skip doing an Essentials e-tutoring and schedule for Intermediate instead to save on my e-tutoring credits? I can see I have 12 credits but there are more than 12 e-tutoring courses...

Also - is there a free e-tutoring orientation session for spanish? I see the "orientation session" mentioned around the forum but I don't know what it is.

Finally, when I repeat an e-tutoring session- do I spend another credit?

Gracias

Tell Us About Yourself! http://livinglanguage.com/community/discussion/343/tell-us-about-yourself Fri, 08 Mar 2013 10:03:30 -0500 Christopher 343@/community/discussions
One thing that would be helpful is if you quickly identify yourself as a native or non-native speaker, especially if you're a student. If you're a more advanced student of the language you're studying, we'd love to hear from you on posts related to more basic questions, but please mention that you're a student of the language yourself. If you're a native speaker of, say, Spanish, who's also learning German, feel free to comment in our Spanish threads, and let us know that you're a native speaker.

Our eTutors, who are all native speakers, will leave answers as well of course, but we're happy to have input from students and other native speakers.

Questions for Your eTutor? http://livinglanguage.com/community/discussion/270/questions-for-your-etutors Mon, 10 Dec 2012 14:40:55 -0500 Christopher 270@/community/discussions
First, you should take advantage of the time at the end of the session to ask for any further explanation that you may want. There's usually a few minutes at the end of the session for a wrap-up, so it's the perfect time to bring up any questions. (If you can ask in your new language, that's great, but if you can't do that, don't worry.)

Second, you should take advantage of this message board! If you have a question, chances are that lots of other students have the same question. So, by posting a question here, you're not only helping yourself, but also the whole Living Language community. Just make sure you post it under the language you're learning (Category), and your eTutor will answer it within a day or so.

Third, if you're shy about asking the question publicly, you can always email it to us at [email protected]. (But, please try not to be shy! It's very unlikely that you're the only one with the question.) If we get questions, we'll post them to the message board anonymously, and the tutor will answer them. Just come back and check out the forum to see your question.

Please don't ask the tutors for their email addresses. We try to give you as much contact with them as possible, and we're happy to mediate, but you know how things can be on the internet.

Thanks for cooperating, and for participating in the language forums!

eTutoring: Two Do's and Two Dont's http://livinglanguage.com/community/discussion/295/etutoring-two-dos-and-two-donts Tue, 15 Jan 2013 13:25:27 -0500 Christopher 295@/community/discussions

1. Enroll in the right session.
This is crucial. If you're an advanced student, don't enroll in a beginner level session. This is really unfair to everyone. Other students who are enrolled in the appropriate session will be discouraged, and probably more than a little annoyed, if you're clearly at a more advanced level. The eTutor will be unfairly burdened by trying to juggle very different levels of proficiency. And you won't get practice at the appropriate level.
Also, don't forget that you're probably taking up someone else's spot, since we limit the sessions to three students.

2. Enroll in a session only when you're ready.
Also crucial. The eTutor sessions are meant to review what you've learned by using the course, and they're designed specifically to give you a chance to practice material covered at certain points. If you haven't made it up to lesson five of Essential, don't enroll in the session that covers lessons three through five. You'll frustrate yourself, and you'll slow down the pace of the session for the other students who have prepared.
The session isn't going anywhere, so take the time to cover the material. It will be there for you when you're ready, and you'll be much happier with your performance. You'll also progress more effectively.

3. Don't monopolize the session.
Our tutors are very good at making sure everyone has the chance to participate, but we also count on your cooperation. Let the other students in the session speak as much as you do. If you have a question on something that didn't come up in the session, wait until the end to ask it, or, better yet, come to the message board and post it here. Other students will see it, so you'll be helping them, too. And the eTutors will have a chance to respond in more detail, giving you the chance to digest the answer and ask any follow up questions.

4. Don't try to turn eTutoring into private online lessons.
eTutoring is designed to be used in conjunction with the Living Language course material. That means that each session follows a certain outline, tied to the corresponding material in the course. If you enroll in the session for Essential, Lessons 1-2, that's what will be reviewed.
If you want a private tutor, that's certainly a wonderful thing to do and something that will help you tremendously. But that's not eTutoring.

Thank you for your cooperation! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them here, or you can send an email to [email protected]

Orientation? http://livinglanguage.com/community/discussion/314/orientations Fri, 01 Feb 2013 15:03:59 -0500 Kulden 314@/community/discussions ]]> Haver e Ter http://livinglanguage.com/community/discussion/407/haver-e-ter Mon, 29 Jul 2013 11:48:20 -0400 Dulce1 407@/community/discussions Há means there is / there are in the present tense.
Há uma revista em inglês. There is a magazine in English.
Há dois jornais em português. There are two newspapers in Portuguese.
To form the interrogative, use a question mark at the end of the sentence when writing and use a question intonation when speaking:
Há um recado para mim? Is there a message for me?
Há três quartos disponíveis nesse hotel? Are there three rooms available in that hotel?
Use não to form the negative:
Não há nada para fazer. There is nothing to do.
In conversational or informal Portuguese, however, the verb ter, to have, can be used instead:
Tem mais café? Is there more coffee?
Não têm dois ingressos. There aren't two tickets.
Têm dois gatos no apartamento da minha vizinha. There are two cats in my neighbor's apartment.
Notice that when the verb ter means there is or there are, the subject is not used. Compare:
Tem alguém em casa? Is there somebody home?
Ele tem uma casa bonita. He has a beautiful house.
As a student, use to practice when meaning there is or there are but also remember that native Portuguese speakers will use ter in informal speech.
