German-English shared vocabulary!

Did you know that German has a few words that are literally identical with English?

For example "finger" is "Finger" in German and "arm" is "Arm". Also "house" is "Haus" (different spelling but same pronunciation) ... following that pattern "mouse" is "Maus" :-)

So, who says, learning German is difficult?

@Heike, I believe the answer to that would be Mark Twain :-)

ohhh, and of course there is "Gesundheit" - health - used as an alternative to "Bless you!" when someone sneezes ... you hear it on NY subways all the time :-)

This link will take you to a site where you can download 6 "posters" that contain 288 words with pictures that are similar in English/Deutsch. You can also purchase the poster set but the download versions look and print great. This is supplied through the Goethe-Institut which is a great source of information and materials for further study. http://www.goethe-verlag.com/poster/indexeng.htm
