Tips for eTutor Sessions

Have you signed up for eTutoring yet? We'll have some of our very patient and talented eTutors share some tips here.

I am one of the (patient) tutors, and I would say to all students: sign up for your eTutoring session -- it is free. Do not worry if you do not feel 100% prepared. It is not a test or something, so do not be shy. Also, do not be afraid: we stopped feeding Languages' god with (alive) students a few years back and we are not planning to re-introduce the practice.

Thanks, Massimo, for showing the students that our eTutors have a good sense of humor, on top of being patient! That's great advice. You shouldn't feel as though you need to cram for these as though you were taking an exam. The point is to practice what you've learned, even if you haven't completely mastered it. Part of the process of mastery is practicing with native speakers, and our eTutoring gives you a chance to do just that. And, perhaps even more importantly, this wonderful service costs absolutely nothing more for our Platinum or Online course customers. You can sign up for as many sessions as you'd like, and repeat sessions as many times as you like. You have absolutely nothing to lose!

Hi there! I'm the Japanese eTutor. I'd like to remind everyone that you can sign up for an orientation session without knowing a single word in your target language! During the orientation session, we explain to you how our program works, give you some study tips, and take any questions that you may have. On top of that, we'll teach you a few basic phrases in your target language. How's that?! (^-^)

Very true. The Orientation Session is definitely the first thing you should sign up for when you activate your Online Course or Platinum profile. It's the perfect way to meet an eTutor, to learn how to get the most out of your course, and to learn a little bit of your new language while you're at it.

Hi guys! This is Anna, Living Language eTutor for Spanish.
You can repeat the same lesson as many times as you need until you feel you had mastered the vocabulary and key grammar rules for that level. You can also go back to the essential lessons as you need to review older lessons.
By repeating the same lesson you will get to practice with different eTutors and get to listen different Spanish accents. Is a very good opportunity to practice listening and speaking with a real native speaker.
Practicar, practicar, practicar is the clue, and eTutor lessons are free and convenient. You can attend your lesson from your office desk at lunch break or from your couch with your laptop and a cup of coffe. Sounds pretty good righ?

Guten Tag!! My name is Heike and I am one of the eTutors for German.
Like my colleagues here I can highly recommend the eTutors live sessions in order to practice your new language. I remember how I came to NY 15 years ago and even though I had English lessons for 5 years in school, I could not even order a cup of coffee without a "dumpling in my throat" - all I had learned was writing essays and dictations and reading off a book.
While I eventually learned how to order coffee :-) I don't recommend that old traditional approach. Enjoy and take advantage of this wonderful freebee that comes with your Living Language subscription!!
And don't forget that all of us were in YOUR shoes at some point, so you have a whole lot of understanding and compassion, fun and humor greeting you!!
See you online!!
Tschüß ...

Speaking of being in your shoes, I am in fact learning Italian right now with the Platinum Italian. My mother speaks Italian, and I always wanted to be able to speak to her in Italian. I've tried to work with some self-study books in the past, but I always stopped after a while and I could never continue studying. But with the Platinum Italian, I think I can finally actually continue studying. You know why? It's because of eTutoring! One of the great things about eTutoring is that you can easily set up a short-term goal. For example, "Okay, I'll sign up for the first session this month. Maybe I'll repeat the session once a week for the whole month. But next month, I want to be able to move up to the next session level."Once you sign up for a session, you'll naturally prepare for it. It's like, if you are going to attend a class, you do your homework beforehand. That's very simple, but that's how you make a continuous progress. If you have no feedback, no deadline, no homework, etc... a typical situation of pure self-studying, it's hard for even the most diligent people to make a continuous progress.eTutoring bridges the gap between the self-study and the classroom learning. As the result, you get the best of both worlds - flexibility and feedback. And do I have to even mention that the cost for all this is a fraction of what you'd pay to attend language school?!

These are all great pieces of advice. I've tried eTutoring in Chinese, French, and German, and I'm signed up for my first Japanese session coming up. My French is pretty good, my German is pretty good but not great, and my Chinese and Japanese are really bad. But I got a lot out of all of the sessions I've had, and found all of the tutors to be patient and encouraging.
